This pull-apart Nutella puff pastry Christmas tree takes just 30 minutes to prepare and uses only four ingredients. It's impressive, delicious, and perfect for the Christmas season.
200gramsNutella spreador equivalent non-brand alternative
1smallegg
5gramsicing sugar (powdered/confectioner's sugar)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 200℃ (392℉).
Unfurl two sheets of puff pastry (640 grams puff pastry ready rolled sheets total; 320g each).
Use a knife to spread 200 grams Nutella spread over one sheet.
Lay the second puff pastry sheet on top.
Cut a tree shape out of the pastry. Use the offcuts to make stars (and further offcuts can be made into twists or small nibbles).
Cut evenly-sized horizontal lines on either side of the tree to make branches.
Twist the branches to reveal the Nutella layer inside. It looks cleanest if you twist them all in the same direction.
Place the cut-out stars on top of the tree.
Transfer the Nutella puff pastry Christmas tree to a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Crack 1 small egg into a bowl and whisk.
Use a pastry brush to cover the tree in egg wash.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and puffed.
Let the Nutella puff pastry Christmas tree cool slightly before dusting with 5 grams icing sugar (powdered/confectioner's sugar).
Notes
Vegan version: Use a non-butter puff pastry (Jus-Rol is accidentally vegan, but always check the ingredients), plant-based Nutella (yes, the company has made a vegan version!), and an aquafaba or plant milk-based "egg" wash.Nut-free version: Omit Nutella and use a nut-free chocolate spread, such as SUNFLY chocolate sunflower seed spread.Gluten-free version: GF puff pastry is slightly less flaky than the regular version, but easy enough to find in supermarkets (Gluten Free Jus-Rol does a decent job).
