Garlic … and Fries. Need I say anymore? Two of my favorite things on the whole planet combined! These Garlic Fries are crispy, salty, spicy, herby, fluffy, garlicky bites of absolute addictiveness. They’re loaded with spicy, aromatic garlic and fresh, bright parsley.

In the UK we’re known for our chips (we call fries “chips”), which we typically eat with Fish, Chips, and Mushy Peas. Every city, town & village has a dozen small and locally owned fish and chip shops. Better yet, because my hometown is by the seaside, there’s a chip shop literally 30 seconds from my house! Compared to American fries, British chips tend to be larger, thick-cut, and fluffier. But when I lived in Los Angeles, I really developed a taste for Garlic Fries. I would make it my mission to hunt out garlic fries in every single town I visited.

Once I got back to the UK, I started work on recreating these garlic fries at home. And boy did I succeed! This recipe for garlic fries is easy, quick, and oh-so-tasty. As an added bonus, it’s far healthier than anything you’ll eat outside. It’s perfect for parties, game nights, or those days that you just want to cozy up at home with a movie and comfort foods.

Are you looking for perfection? Because you’ve just found it!

Is this Recipe Vegan, Gluten Free, Nut Free and Soy Free?

Yes! My recipe for garlic fries is completely vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, nut free and soy free. This means that almost everyone, regardless of dietary requirements, can enjoy snacking on these indulgent and addictive fries!

Garlic Fries require very few ingredients: potatoes, olive oil, garlic, parsley, and salt. You can top them with a Vegan Parmesan if you like. I’ve chosen to serve them alongside a Vegan Mayonnaise (this Vegan Garlic Aioli is also the bomb!)

Are Vegan Garlic Fries Healthy?

I won’t lie – fries don’t have the best reputation when it comes to healthy foods. However, my recipe is much healthier than your standard fast-food or restaurant-style fries. We’ll be making skin-on fries, which means that we reap all the benefits of all the minerals, vitamins, and macronutrients that are packed into potato skins.

As the name suggests, these garlic fries are also smothered in garlic. Not only does the garlic give these fries their signature kick and delicious flavor, but it also has many proven health benefits. For example, garlic is said to be anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antimicrobial – among many other things!

Although I love deep-fried fries (it’s in the name!), opting to either bake or air-fry them is best if you want to pick the healthiest choice possible.

How to Bake Fries for this Recipe?

  1. Heat your oven to 220 C.
  2. Add the potatoes to a baking tray and spray/drizzle with 2 tbsp neutral oil. Toss the potatoes well, then cook in the oven for 30 minutes, turning halfway – or until crispy and golden brown.
  3. Remove from the oven and toss together with minced garlic and a handful of finely chopped parsley. Season with salt to taste.

How do you make Air Fried Garlic Fries?

  1. Preheat your Air Fryer to 200 C. Spray the basket with neutral oil.
  2. Once the air fryer turns on, add the potatoes in a single layer. Cook for 15 minutes, then spray with more oil and turn. Cook for another 10-15 minutes or until crispy and golden brown.
  3. Remove from the air fryer and toss together with minced garlic and a handful of finely chopped parsley. Season with salt to taste.

Note that you may have to cook the fries in two batches. Try not to overload your air fryer as it will prevent the fries from getting crispy!

How to Deep Fry for this Recipe?

  1. Heat your oil to 190 C.
  2. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the potatoes. Don’t overcrowd the oil. Cook until lightly golden – the color will deepen after you take them out.
  3. Once cooked, remove with a slotted spoon and drain.
  4. Toss with minced garlic and a handful of finely chopped parsley. Season with salt to taste and ready!

Tips for the best Vegan Garlic Fries

  • Use the right type of potato. Although any potato is tasty, some are a lot better for frying than others. I recommend Maris Piper or Russet Potatoes.
  • Cut the right thickness. This recipe is for french fries – typically they are small and thin. Cut them just the right size to have a crisp exterior and a fluffy interior; I suggest around 1/2 inch thickness.
  • Wash the fries of starch. Once you’ve cut the fries, add them to a bowl of cold water. Swish them all around a few times, drain, and wash.
  • Don’t overcrowd while cooking. This goes for whether you bake, air fry or deep fry these garlic fries. Lay them out in a singular layer in the oven or air fryer, or only add half a batch to the deep fryer. It’ll allow them to cook evenly and get gorgeously crispy.

This Recipe Is …

  • Crispy and addictive
  • Vegan, Gluten Free, Nut Free & Soy Free
  • Easily adaptable
  • Easy
  • Healthy
  • Perfect for parties or movie nights

How to Serve Garlic Fries

Serve these garlic fries with an array of delicious dips for a party or night in! My personal favourite is Vegan Mayonnaise, although you could also opt for Ketchup, Burger Sauce, or even Sweet Chilli or Siracha Sauce! The choice is yours …

Go classic American style and serve your garlic fries as a side dish alongside Burgers / Sandwiches (vegetarian of course!), Mac & Cheese, Pizza, Grilled Corn, or a delicious salad!

Alternatively, opt for a Middle Eastern feast with Hummus, Falafels, Mutabal and Tabbouleh. Garlic Fries, although maybe not traditional, taste absolutely phenomenal paired with these dishes. You could even add your garlic fries to gyros or Seitan Shawarma Naan Wraps!
